User Profile Extended
What User Profile Extended changes on the WordPress user profile screen, including multiple roles, profile pictures, its settings and the plugins it tidies up.
Written for User Profile Extended 0.3.20
This version of User Profile Extended (0.3.20) was built for an earlier version of Side Kick. It may not load on Side Kick 2.18 or later. If it cannot load, Side Kick skips it, carries on working, and shows an error notice in the admin saying a module was skipped. The rest of this page describes the module's features as they were built.
User Profile Extended is a Side Kick module that redesigns the WordPress user profile screen. It needs Darwin Side Kick installed and active. All of WordPress's own profile fields are kept and work as before. They are reorganised into clearer sections. You can find out more on the User Profile Extended product page.
The new layout is used on your own profile (Profile in the admin menu) and when you edit another user from Users.

Quick Actions
A Quick Actions bar sits at the top of the screen. It holds WordPress's save button (Update Profile or Update User), which shows Saving… while your changes are saved. Tools from some other plugins also appear here, as described under Supported plugins below.
Sections
| Section | What it holds | Starts |
|---|---|---|
| User Information | Username, role, first and last name, nickname, display name, email, website, biographical info and profile picture | Open |
| Account Management | New password, password reset link and logged-in sessions | Open |
| WP Management | Admin colour scheme, toolbar, language, keyboard shortcuts and syntax highlighting | Folded |
| Application Passwords | WordPress's application passwords (passwords for apps and services that connect to your site) | Folded |
| Misc | Any remaining profile fields that other plugins add | Folded |
Other touches:
- Tick boxes such as keyboard shortcuts become on/off switches.
- Role, Display name and Language become drop-down lists you can search.
- Required fields are marked with an asterisk (*).
- On your own profile, where WordPress does not show a role selector, your role is shown read-only.
Folding and reordering sections
- Click a section's title or its arrow to fold or unfold it.
- Drag a section by its handle (three short lines) to move it up or down. The Quick Actions bar always stays at the top.
Folds and section order are remembered by your web browser. They are not tied to your account, so they apply to every profile you open in that browser, and a different browser or device starts fresh.
Giving a user more than one role
WordPress normally lets you pick one role on the profile screen. With this module, the Role field accepts several.
- Go to Users and open the user you want to change.
- In the Role field, pick each role the user should have. Remove a role with the small cross next to it.
- Click Update User.
Safeguards:
- Only people who can change user roles (normally Administrators) can do this.
- You can never change your own roles.
- Only roles you are allowed to assign are changed. Any other roles the user has are left alone.
- All of the user's current roles are already selected when the screen opens, so extra roles are not lost when you save.
If you remove every role and save, the user is left with no role at all.
Profile picture
The module lets you use an image from your own Media Library as a profile picture, instead of relying only on Gravatar (the free service WordPress normally uses for profile pictures).
- In User Information, find the profile picture and click Select picture (or Change picture if one is already set).
- Upload an image or choose one from the Media Library, then click Use as profile picture.
- Save the profile.
- The picture is used everywhere WordPress shows profile pictures, such as the admin toolbar, comments and author lists.
- Only images can be used.
- Click Remove and save to go back to Gravatar. The same happens automatically if the image is deleted from the Media Library.
- Anyone who can edit a profile can change its picture. That means users on their own profile, and Administrators for everyone.
Settings
The module's settings sit in Side Kick's settings, under User Profile Extended. They apply to the profile screen for every user, Administrators included.

| ACF, New User Approve, Login As User, Elementor, WooCommerce, Yoast SEO | Shows that plugin's section on the profile screen. Each switch only appears when that plugin is active. Turning one off removes that plugin's fields from the profile screen. | On |
Supported plugins
When one of these plugins is active, the module gathers its profile fields into a tidy section of their own.
- Advanced Custom Fields (ACF): field groups shown on user profiles are collected into an ACF section. Each field group becomes its own foldable part, named after the group and folded to start with.
- WooCommerce: customer details go into a WooCommerce section with Billing and Shipping parts, both folded to start with. Name and contact details are grouped apart from the address.
- Yoast SEO: a Yoast SEO section with Author Page (title, meta description and pronouns), Preferences (shown as on/off switches) and Social Profiles (folded to start with).
- Elementor: Elementor's profile options, such as its AI and Notes settings, go into an Elementor section as on/off switches. It starts folded.
- New User Approve: a New User Approve tool appears in Quick Actions. For a user waiting for approval it shows Approve and Deny buttons. Once decided, it shows Approved and Denied, and you can switch between them, but not back to pending. The change is saved straight away, not when you update the profile.
- Login As User: the plugin's button moves into a Login as User tool in Quick Actions.
